Both of them are equal for me... in EF1 lighting is much easier because there are light emitting shaders but complex scripting is much harder. In EF2 it is the other way round ... scripting is much easier because of Morphues Scripting Engine but lighting harder as there are not light emitting shaders anymore. For everything else like brushwork or getting the map to display ingame both games are pretty much the same only with little differences.
None of both is hard to map for me now. That was different a few years ago of course.

On the coding side it is much more different of course ... but that is not the topic of this poll.

The game itself sets a lower standard in detail and quality due to its age and is therefore easier to match. It deals mostly in JPEGs which MSpaint can make (poor quality notwithstanding). There are fewer game assets to scroll through and choose from so its simplier and more basic in that regard. Scripting is more limited but it is a bit complex and not the most user-friendly program (I have no experience scripting with EF2 so I can't make a comparison). Raven released all their maps and scripts so if you saw it in the game, you can open it up to see how they did it. There is more material available for EF1 in general.

The two games are very very similar. If you can map in one, you can map in the other. Scripting is different, but in EF1, you don't even have to. You can use basic pre-set scripts in Radiant if you really wanted to. However, EF2 had a lot of visual updates and gives developers more control with lighting and scripting.
