Introducing Project Retool: An All New Last Outpost - Community

Introducing Project Retool: An All New Last Outpost

Since July of last year, we at The Last Outpost have striven to bring you the best SRPs, events, and roleplays of all kind. We believe that, largely, we've succeeded in that mission thus far. But we know that that's not enough - the RPG-X community demands and deserves more. We want to bring RPG-X back into the spotlight, and we know that with fewer people playing Elite Force, fewer places to buy it, and more complications in the setup process than ever before, it's not easy. But we also know that it's something which must be done if we are to keep RPG-X alive, and we think it's more than worth keeping.

Therefore, The Last Outpost is proud to present Project Retool - a complete change in our website and forums geared towards gaining new members, bringing old ones back into the fold, and making RPG-X an easier, more pleasant experience for everyone. Today, we start what we hope will be a complete change in how RPG-X and its community evolves, beginning with our very own site.

An All New Website
We started by going back to the drawing board with our site. While our forum system has served us well in the past, it can't do everything - we wanted to create a custom-tailored site that would provide visitors with everything they need to know about us and what we do, no signup necessary! To that end, we've completely redesigned our homepage at http://www.last-outpost.net/, creating a new splash page with easy, readable guides and images. In the future, we may add even more to this new site, including content for both new members and old alike.

An All New Forum
Along with our newly redesigned homepage and guides comes a big change in how our forum is organized. First, we've consolidated all of our guides and information into one big forum, http://last-outpost.net/forum/index.php?board=7.0 - The Infosphere. This new information board will have not only basic information on how to get connected to our server and setup with RPG-X, but also advanced guides, Academy lessons and all manner of information on a vast variety of topics. All the guides and threads formerly spread out throughout our site are now compiled here, so all the info you need is in one convenient place.

In addition, we've made several smaller changes to our forums to make things more convenient. We've also completely updated our Files Database that you can access right now! This new system is categorized by file type and includes all the maps, music, and other content you'll need to play on our server! Plus, it provides a complete description of each file with images, and all the available file mirrors currently on the web! You'll never need to go Googling for another map again - the database is completely searcheable and integrated with the forum.

The database is still being completed, and will be entirely done within the next couple of days. In addition, we are currently working on some exciting new file collections that should make getting all the maps, music, and models you need even easier - so stay tuned.

That's not all, though. In the coming weeks, stay tuned for more exciting happenings here at TLO:

    [li]The Safe Harbor Station event[/li]
    [li]Our all new Frontlines SRP[/li]
[li]All new videos on our YouTube channel[/li]
    [li]An all new awards system[/li]
    [li]And much, much more![/li]

More information on all these things is coming in the next few weeks, so stay tuned here at The Last Outpost.

A couple quick notes:

The CoC has been amended:

Quote:
Under section 1, paragraph 6 (paragraph 6 becoming paragraph 7):

"Programs and services provided solely to TLO members may not be redistributed to non-members without recieving prior permission from the Council. This includes maps, models, executables, and all other forms of content that may be deemed restricted."

The registration agreement has been amended:

Quote:
"Please bear in mind that registering on The Last Outpost is only one step in becoming a member. To complete your membership and experience all the services TLO has to offer, please fill out an application in the Apply to Join forum."

Donators now have a pin by their name, signifying their status.

There have been some issues with the Pretty URLs mod the board uses - these will hopefully be fixed over the next few weeks. Please bear with us as we sort out all the kinks!

Finally, I'd like to take a moment to thank a few people this could not have been done without:

[li]Jenson, who unearthed his guides, restructured the forums and welcome messages, and has provided countless hours of feedback and assistance.[/li]
[li]Klaw, who commandeered the file database, putting in a ton of work to get everything up on schedule, negotiated with map makers, wrote guides, and contributed feedback.[/li]
[li]Telex Ferra, who wrote our new RPGXCE, rpgxEF, ioCow and ioEF guides, the what is RPG-X and what is TLO guides on the main page, and has created dozens of images and given us a huge amount of time over the past weeks.[/li]
[li]Central Plexus, who created the new welcome email, setup our YouTube channel, designed an epic trailer, and helped with the files database.[/li]
[li]Grizz, who wrote the how to roleplay guide, designed our new site buttons, worked on the file database and tested RPGXCE.[/li[

Massive thanks to everyone who helped. In addition, I'd like to thank all our donators for giving us the funds to keep going, and our members for making TLO into the premiere RPG-X group it is today. This has all been done for you, and without you, it would never have happened.

I welcome all feedback - this is a big change, and we've got a long ways to go still. Please, if you have any questions or comments, don't hesitate to contact me by whichever means you prefer.

Yours,
Veritas & the Council
