Help get Elite Force open source - Mods
  Posted by: Phenix on 01-17-2006 @ 09:36 - Source: RPG-X

The RPG-X mod are spear heading a campain to Activision for the release of Elite Force's game engine.

Quote:
Think of this like the part II of the saga when we mass "contacted" Kenn Hoekstra of Ravensoft for the EF source animation files (Which have since become a critical component in RPG-X ). That seems to prove it's not the quality of people... it's quantity lol.

Okay, so the main person behind all of this is Mr Graham Fuchs, the producer at Activision who oversaw EF's production. He was basically the one in charge of this production, and so I'm guessing most of the weight on this decision is up to him.

His work e-mail address is: GFuchs AT activision DOT com.

We know that the EF source code was already dismissed, so our messages towards him should probably follow as this:

-Why was it dismissed.
-Can it be re-consdiered.
-Point out that Elite Force is still very active, and there are lots of people who would love to help contribute furthur to it.

Shoot me now, not later.

Its the Engine Source, it will allow moders to do changes to the exe. This would for example make it possible to add improvements to the EF Engine.

#2 They do not have to do anything, as Activision owns the rights for the EF Engine (or something like this), even as its based on an older Q3 Engine version.

EF was built off a commercially licensed version of the Q3 engine. See my post on RPG-X forums or Wikipedia for more information on GPL and dual-licensing.

Forgive me if I'm sounding a bit of a n00b here, but, what's this?

No FileTrekker, that is the "game" source, 90% of games release that with in a month of two of release.

This is only the game logic. What we are trying to get is the game engine. The engine as I'm sure you know, controls the visual effects and everything that the game logic does not

That isn't legal though is it? The game engine is based on the Quake 3 engine right?

Yes the game engine for Elite Force is based on Quake 3, and yes it is legal since the Q3 engine was made open source last summer.

There's an interesting project that is taking the q3 engine source code and making a new EF "patch" from it.. Check it out here:
