Getting Started - GTK Radiant - Learning the Editor 1
This Page has been viewed 11,039 times

GTK Radiant is a Quake 3 Arena map editor which can be used on multiple Quake 3 based games. In this case, It's EFI.

GTK Radiant creates a file type known as .map, only GTK,
Uber, and EF Radiant Can read this file type.

GTK Radiant uses a Compiler known as Q3MAP2, Q3MAP2 changes the filetype from a .map into a .bsp

.bsp files is what the game reads, as GTK would your .map
Essentially you changed your GTK map, in to a code the game can read and render.

Now, Enough about how it does what it does and that other mumbo jumbo, time for the actual editor.

So you will understand what I am talking about when I say " Texture window " or " Grid window," here is a screenshot from within GTK.

Now, for each component,

The Wireframe grid window is where you make your objects shape, as indicated by the square seen in the screenshot. This is where your X and Y Axisis are set.

The Texture window is where you chose what to, "wrap" your object in.
Currently the square seen in the 3D Window is using the "Caulk" texture from textures/common. I will tell you more about the Caulk texture later on.

Your Height adjustment window is how I set how tall the box seen in the 3D window is. This is where you set your Z-Axis for your object created in the grid.

With all 4 fields set, X-Axis, Y-Axis, Z-Axis and texture. You officialy have a "brush".

"Brush" is just the more official term for object.

This now Concludes, GTK Radiant - Learning the Editor 1
