Star Trek Elite Force II SP Demo - File Description

Description:
Pre-Order Elite Force 2 for $39.90

This is the Star Trek Elite Force II Single-Player Only Demo.

A terrifying evil has awakened. Hordes of nightmarish creatures are attacking ships and colonies throughout the galaxy. Evolved for combat, their armies have made easy work of the opposition. Now, it's up to the Hazard Team to respond. Lead your highly trained squad from volcanic worlds to deadly swamps, from starship hulls to the underground cities of long-vanished races, from mercenary space stations to ice planets. Bring the fight to the enemy as the twisting plot unfolds. Seek to uncover the mysterious origins of the invaders, discover secret enemy alliances and subterfuge, and eliminate the enemy threat once and for all.

This 118MB download contains a small portion of gameplay from two of the missions in Star Trek Elite Force II. Within the demo, you will fight against several Exomorph creatures, which represent a small sampling of the wide variety of monsters and different humanoids you will encounter in the full version of the game.

2. DEMO CONTENTS

IMPORTANT NOTE: This demo is based on pre-release code, and does not reflect the expected final quality level of the full, released version of Star Trek Elite Force II. Any bugs encountered will likely be resolved; weapon balance, level design, scripted sequences and monsters encountered all may change in the final version.

This demo contains a small portion of gameplay from two of the missions in Star Trek Elite Force II. Within the demo, you will fight against several Exomorph creatures, which represent a small sampling of the wide variety of monsters and different humanoids you will encounter in the full version of the game.

1st Level: Attrexian Station - As the leader of the Hazard Team, your primary mission is to search this station for any survivors of the recent attack on the USS Dallas, a Federation starship. The USS Dallas had attempted to help the Attrexian Station and was overwhelmed by the attacking forces. You must also protect any Attrexians you encounter from the attacking alien species that is still running rampant in the space station. The following weapons will be available to you in this mission:
· Phaser – This is a lightweight weapon that recharges itself over time. Its primary fire mode fires a constant beam of energy. The secondary fire mode depletes the Phaser's energy stores more rapidly, but fires a more concentrated beam that may disintegrate your target. It is important to remember that the Phaser will never completely run out of energy. It is useful as a last line of defense, if you are ever in the unfortunate position of being out of ammunition for your other weapons.
· Federation Assault Rifle – This is a new addition to the Hazard Team arsenal. The Assault Rifle's primary fire is ideal for swiftly killing enemies. Since each shot disperses a spread of high-energy projectiles, it is best suited for short-range combat. The alternate fire mode emits a medium-range burst of concussive energy, which is suited for concentrated groups of enemies. (Hint: This weapon's primary fire mode is devastatingly effective at close range against the smallest alien Exomorphs.)
· Enhanced Compression Rifle - An improved version of the standard Federation Compression Rifle, this weapon's primary fire rapidly shoots small beams in a tight spread. The alternate fire mode delivers a powerful ball of energy that explodes on contact with any surface or target. The alternate fire mode causes splash damage, so use it with caution in small areas and against short-range combatants.
· Tricorder - Use your Tricorder's primary mode whenever you encounter a panel that brings up a blue outline of the tricorder in your HUD. Use the alternate display modes to gather details about the structural integrity of your surroundings, which may reveal important information such as secret doors.
· Attrexian Arc Launcher - This weapon’s primary fire emits rapid bursts of electric energy at considerable range. Its alternate fire mode is extremely useful for delivering maximum damage to concentrated groups of multiple enemies. Use the alternate fire mode to launch small clouds of gas in the area near your enemies. Then, aim the Arc Launcher and use the primary fire to "ignite" the cloud in an electrical storm of explosive energy. Be careful not to do this near your team members, and keep a safe distance! (Hint: Fire multiple gas clouds in a small area and ignite them at once. One shot can cause them all to explode, which can dispose of a multitude of enemies in one fell swoop!)

2nd Level: Attrexian Colony - The alien Exomorphs continue to assault the Attrexians, threatening one of their colony worlds. Eliminate the Exomorph threat, and assist any Attrexians you encounter. For this mission, you will have some of the weapons described above, as well as:
· Grenade Launcher - This powerful new weapon enables you to fire grenades over a wide range and detonate them at will. Grenades will auto-detonate if they strike organic targets (both enemy and friendly) but will bounce off of structures, objects, and walls and come to rest on the floor. Use the primary fire to launch the grenade (note: the longer you hold the fire button down, the further the grenade will travel). When you wish to detonate the grenade, press the alternate fire button and it will explode, damaging all targets in its blast radius. You can also fire multiple grenades and set them all off simultaneously when you activate the secondary. The Grenade Launcher is a very powerful weapon, and should be used with caution, especially around Attrexians and your Hazard Team members! (Hint: this weapon is best used at long range, and can be useful for firing around corners and into rooms while remaining out of range of enemy fire. Keep in mind that the grenades can be detonated in mid-air if you choose!)

5. HINTS & TIPS

· Don't forget to use your Tricorder. When using the Tricorder, you can right-click to trigger alternate view modes, revealing structural weaknesses (which can be destroyed by weapons fire) and other things hidden to the unaided eye. This may help you in breaching doors and exploring hidden areas.

· Not everything you encounter is an enemy. For instance, the Attrexians are a friendly race, and should not be harmed. Not only are you there to protect them, they may provide some additional help in sticky situations.

· Take advantage of all health and energy terminals you run across with the Use key (X by default).

· Do not allow the enemies to get too close. Try to fight from a distance to avoid getting overwhelmed.

· Be mindful of "splash" damage from your weapons. Some fire modes cause explosive area-of-effect damage, which can hurt more than one target, including you, your teammates or those you are trying to protect!

6. GAME PERFORMANCE ENHANCEMENTS

If you are experiencing game performance issues, and would like to increase the overall framerate of the game (at the possible expense of visual quality), consider changing the following variables in the options screens:

Video Settings
· Reduce your Video Mode to a lower resolution.
· Reduce your Color Depth to 16-bit.
· Reduce the "Texture Quality" setting to Medium (suitable for video cards with 64MB VRAM) or Low (for video cards with 32MB VRAM).
· You can further increase performance by turning off or reducing to "Low" any of the settings in the "Advanced" video menu.

Audio Settings
· Uncheck the box next to "Reverb On"
· Switch your Sound Quality setting to Software.
· Lower the quality of the sound from 44Khz to 22Khz or even to 11Khz.
· Enable Force 8-bit Sound

It´ll cost you a few bucks but 56k users can order it on CD along with any other file you find at this site. Or you can download it overnight, be sure to use a download manager so you can resume if you loose your connection

There's probably tweaks we can do somewhere...

Apparently for those with radeon's there is a fix for the demo locking up. Just set this:

+set r_precompressed_textures 0

Just wanted to p***** this along to any of the Radeon users out there. Hope you all enjoy the demo!!

My game runs fine on max settings. I don't know what everyones complaining about. Perhaps there is a compatibility issue?

Oh BTW, I updated to directx9 right before I ran ef2 demo for the first time, so I don't know what my performance would have been without it. At any rate I suggest the rest of you get the update.

By the way, "color depth" in the video options does not actually set the color depth of the screen, it sets the color depth of textures used. If you want to use 16 bit color (and I recommend it) you have to change r_colorbits in your config file from 32 to 16. Just so you all know!

The monkey is not amused! >;P

OK this game looks great, but hard, I know when you first get into the level that you come under attack from what seems like infinitely spawning creatures! I've been able to get up onto the crates, across the fire tubes and open the door, BUT I GET KILLED BY TRYING TO FIGHT OFF THE ENEMY, I've shot down the big crane thing on the roof but it doesn't do anything

SO are there any cheats or any help for me out there?

Ok, If you really want too, once you have console active, you can enter them. All I know so far is Godmode(God) and health(Health X, the number is the number of HP you want.)

That's all I know.

OMG...Its like Q3 now...just hordes of enemies coming at you...damn. And the phaser, whats up with it ? So short range its useless...hope the full game is better.

But why does it lagg so damn much, I like to think I have a descent system> P4 1.7Ghz, 512ddr ram, gf4 Ti 4800 128mb and no damn meaningless prog running in the background. Still I get laggy movement on medium @ 800x600

Alright. Since people asked for cheats, i'll give you one

One: Need to activate console, if you noticed, the ` button doesn't work. Goto properties, and target, and put this in

"Cstick out tonguerogram FilesActivisionStar Trek Elite Force II Single Player DemoEF2.exe" +set developer 1

Case sensitive smile

Then when you start the game, console appears. Press ESC to get the menu and press ` to get rid of console.

Now for the cheats:

Type in GOD for god mode. All other cheats doesn't work for some reason. You don't need to type in sv_cheats 1 though.

Please do not spam.

Also, I found the god cheat when I was annoyed when I can;'t get through the first level. The "GOD" cheat also gives you unlimited ammo

type 'cmdlist' in the consol to get a list of all the commands you can run in the game. It does not, however, list the actual cheat codes. Just something to mess around with.

One other code I havent seen mentiond here yet that does work is 'notarget', which keeps the enemies from noticing you.

Already beat it though.

The game will make a nice long challenge.

Stop complaining people about your connection speeds, especially those with cable. I have a 56 running at 28 and I have no qualms. Only took me six hours to download with GetRight. Be thankful for what you have.

Keep getting killed on first level..... can't get fps to raise to move the rifle aim fast enough.

Got the DirectX 9.0a and improved some... not much.

Anyway to bring a console down like EF1 to set hunkmegs etc ???

First, I must say that EF2 IS FANTASTIC! I CANNOT BELIEVE how much better the graphics are than in EF 1 !!!!! AND....EF2 has special feature support for nVidia - THE GRAPHICS ARE GREAT! To all those complaining of lag... it must be a config error on your end or somethng - I have a P3 1Ghz with a GeForce3 - runs like a charm!

OK.... here is my BIG COMPLAINT - WHERE IS THE ZOOM FEATURE??????? Has anyone figured it out? I really hope Ritual didn't forget it. If anyone knows how to use it or if they have inside info if its going to be included....please let me know!

In addition to GOD mode,

Try it, it's quite interesting.

This demo rocks. I updated my computer to DX9 and bought a new video card specifically for this game and it was worth it. I've got everything turned up to high on the video settings and my machine flys. I was very surprised actually. I figured that with my amount of RAM and a P3 instead of a P4, I would have to turn the video settings down to get it to a playable state. I'm glad I don't. It looks beautiful at high resolution.

It took me a while to get past the first level in the cargo bay but after that it got fun. I love the tricorder and the *****ault rifle. I didn't figure out how to get the enhanced compression rifle until I was halfway through the second level and I ran out of *****ault rifle ammo.

My system:
Pentium 3 1Ghz
256 MB RAM
NVidia GeForce FX video card w/128MB RAM

For those having problems with the OpenGL subsytem error, the culprit is usually out of date video drivers or an out of date directX or both.

Make sure you have the latest video drivers and that you have installed DirectX 9.0A from Microsofts web site.

nVidia owners can get the latest Detonator drivers from their website http://www.nvidia.com

This thing is rock solid! You people need some computers in the 90's. Mac users WHY???? The graphic are unreal, this is a demo?? No sparkle like Jedi Knight from bad mapping. No sucking the life out of my computer like EF 1. I hope the people who made this still have a home life, because you can see the effort in all the detail. I never liked Raven, they spent more time on security then they did on the program. Adam

Hope the game is further optimised before its released cause it runs SOOOOOOOO bad if you put a decent level of detail on (I have Geforce 4 4600 etc). Especially if you enable EAX effects, it really dies then! (yes all my drivers are up to date)

Other than that I'm averagely impressed, think the graphics could be better through! As for the weapons, wot happened to them being based on Trek!

This is #156 and #157, I finally managed to play it, but the best I could do was 800x600x16. Seriously, why even give people an option if it's going to run so slow at anything higher? Why not just mandate 800x600x16 and be done with it?

My laptop has Radion Mobility 9000 64meg & is very happily running the demo at 1600x1200x32!

Try turning the sound quality down, using the 'software' option & turning off reverb.

 #168 - BIG critique of EF2 demo. All please read. - 05-15-2003 at 22:36

I wrote this after thoroughly digesting every part of the demo. You might not like what I've written, but I was pretty angry when I wrote this, as I was very disappointed with it, so I might have been a little harsh on EF2. So here goes:

Unlike many of you, I went and ordered a File front CD and it finally arrived. When I play a game, I tend to be rather picky if things looks like the game designers were asleep while making the game. While this might not have been the case with EF2, it certainly looks like the level designer and enemy designer were not having their coffee in the morning. So, I open with my big critique: First off, the levels look like CRAP!!!

When I began playing I noticed a really big absence in the game. I noticed that all the areas in the demo are too "clean" because they don't have the irregular spots on them that makes them believable (i.e. blemishes, doodads, damage, little bits and pieces that show wear and tear on all the walls and floors) because I notice all the areas in the demo are too spot free to really be a believable environment. Example: the place in the first level where those two Attrexian guys have set up a sort of "barricade" to hide behind, and its supposed to be the area where they’ve been fighting off lots of xenomorphs. But guess what, nowhere in that room do you see wall marks or floor marks indicating that there was any sort of fighting going on in there at all. Same thing with the rest of the demo. Except from a few claw marks, there is nowhere where it shows that somebody been firing off energy weapons, unlike in EF where you see those big holes everywhere of melted metal, and not to mention blood spatter (which EF also had LOTS of), because if you’re fighting off aliens that either claw you to pieces, or shoot acid at you, don't you think where they rip someone to bits, there would be a whole LOT of blood? And shouldn’t the aliens be drenched in it? Or at least their claws? (Kind of like the Harvesters?) Apparently not. According to the demo, the only sign of the aliens' savage ferocity are the random dead bodies of Attrexians strewn throughout the levels. So if this is the beta, and they still haven't added the polishing bits to the levels, even after a HALF YEAR extension, we have a big problem.

Second problem: The aliens aren't very scary or challenging for a "nightmare" race

At the very beginning of the demo, you are *****aulted by about 20 little aliens who will either shoot acid at you, shoot themselves at you with their biological rocket booster (what do they use for fuel?) or just run and swipe at you. While this wasn't that bad, I noticed that the aliens always shoot three globs of acid in a very unrealistic fashion when they were at a distance (one glob goes front, the two others shoot 15 degrees to each side of the front.) Not only that, but the acid globs don’t even arc up into the air, instead they just maintain a straight line 1 foot above the ground until they hit something. (Not to mention they only travel about 10mph) Instead of having the aliens shoot three acid blob like projectiles, Ritual should have just made it a wide, close range acid spray, because right now the aliens provide more of a dodging problem rather than a threatening menace to the player.

Sounds: 8/10 (lots of nice effect sounds, weapon sounds, and alien sounds here)

Level design: 4/10 (because even an amateur level designer remembers to add blood and bullet holes to show the place has been attacked.)

Fun: 5/10 (the "nightmare" aliens are nothing more than harvesters with rocket boosters and a few added projectiles, but still lack scariness)

Overall: 5/10
Right now, things for EF2 are looking rather grim. The levels look like they were made by a level designer who apparently didn't know how to add decals to a map (just to remind you, I have wall decals turned on), the enemies are nothing but harvesters v2.0, and the only thing that didn't need any major improvement was the sound. And don't expect for this game to make a huge turn around by the release date either. They're done with game design and are now just ironing out the wrinkles. Unfortunately, the level design and enemy design are huge wrinkles and I doubt they would go back at this point and actually make the levels or enemies be good.

From what I've seen, I don't expect EF2 to be an award winning game of any sort. In fact, you just might be able to find it in the bargain bins by the end of September.

The most disappointing part of Elite Force 2 for me was the enemies. Like you said, they are basically harvesters v2. Was really hoping that elite force 2 would be a bit more 'original' and take a different approach too enemies instead of just a copy and re-vamp of EF1. I know its only a beta but from what i've seen the game offers nothing new, except the 'hull' stages which look impressive.

Think i'll be waiting for this one to go to budget!

Please remember that those two levels in the demo are very near the start of the game and only represent 2%-3% of the entire gameplay. Look at the videos to see the variety in locals/enemies/gametypes. Also, this was a DEMO for all to play, so the difficulty was set to AVERAGE - i.e. equates to 'NORMAL' in the finished game. I have heard feedback varying from 'TOO HARD! What's the GOD cheat???' to 'TOO EASY! I finished it in five minutes!!!'
I just think it's a little unfortunate that the demo contained two levels set in similar enviroments with the same enemies, but there u go...

I don't think the enemies are too easy to too hard. They give some challenge, but they just seem to be a little too unrealistic i.e. shooting three directional globs of acid and having rocket boosters apparently which were "engineered". And to make them better I think the enemies should be made a bit harder to kill or faster so you can't run from them and they should lose the rocket boosters.

But I still think the levels look a bit underdone due to thier lack of detail, same thing with what I've seen from all of the screenshots, the levels simply are not filled enough to seem real.

Aand another thing, why do the bodies fade into nothingness when they die? The least the game designers could have done was to make them disappear when you aren't looking.

I agree about the three gobs of green stuff - but the rockets thing I actually like! I'm *****uming we'll find out the where & whyfore in the full game. As for the bodies fading/disappearing - that ALWAYS looks wrong in SP FPS whatever the game! Except maybe in NOLF2...
Again, the bodies dissolving like that may be explained in game...
As for detail, I thought it all looks lovely!

But then I saw the HalfLife2 videos...eek!
Yes, EF2 now looks dull...frown

I dont mean any offense but i think ur being unreasonable. Ok. This is star trek. Science Fiction. And you say its "unrealistic". Thats a oxymoron if i ever did see one. True maybe for gameplay the shots could have been different but the game designers made em that way and maybe theyll change it.

And why the hell would they add all the little details that always go on at the END of development for a game in a beta demo? And im sure the dissapearing bodies is one of those. More than likely itll follow ef1's example of the bodies being transported, which is actually a good idea for fading bodies instead of them just dissapearing.

And who ever said this was a horror game? I dont remember being scared in ef1 ever, so why are u bringing down ef2's for being the same?

And the level design is not only added extras it involves gameplay factors, how the weapons work in each area, ect ect.

EF 1 runs at lightning speed on my computor.
EF 2 runs like a SLOW SLUG on grease!!!

Some of us can't go buy new computors just to run the crap they created.

I thank Raven, for only requireing a video card....
meaning in an article they issued that it says required but its not.... just recommended.
They made it so people without high end systems could run it and have fun.

Simply stunning game. Graphics are top notch and can support older computer graphics as well as state of the art. Gameplay is immersive and well scripted. Only complaint: seems like theres a lot of runnin around "following" people. Other than that this game kicks *****. Two Thumbs Up!

I have a P3 700@850 (yesyes) with an ATI Xpert 2000 (Rage 128, 32 MB) and 640 MB Ram. The German Demo downloaded fast with 53kB/sec. The Installation worked correctly and the game startet with no errors. (I installed DX90a before).
Yes, its slower than EF1, especially with enemies or some effects (smoke, burning parts etc). But on 640x480 with a bit adjustment it worked on my old machine (only approx. 1400 Winmarks !) ok. I wonder that some of you have such problems with your Lightspeed Cards and this demo, but the key could be the amount of memory I have built in. During gameplay I never saw the HD light blinking, so everythig was cached in RAM. This seems to be why loading a level is very slow.
OK, here're the critics, if someone is interested:
I was disappointed of this demo. I didn't find anything original except better graphics, more detailed animation sequences and other technical aspects. But it is, for an old EF1 player, definitevly NOT amazing. I asked myself "This took two years of hard work ?", while I looked on those Gigabytes of extensions and in most cases cost-free, huge MODS for Unreal Tournament (1). However, does someone remember Star Trek DS9 Fallen ? This Game is very good, excellent in graphics, sound and music are High-End, but --- against EF1 The Fallen had no chance. Because EF1 has ATHMOSPHERE and the Characters have personality, the cut-scenes humor. The conflict between Munro and Tuvok was made very interesting and movie-like. The music was perfect for its purpose, it was not as good composed as in DS9, but much better fitting to the came !
I fear, even if I know, that this demo is about 2-3 % of the game, that the change from Raven to Ritual was a mistake (maybe it happened because EF1 Expansion Pack was a disappointment) and the producers will go to bankruptcy, when nobody wants to buy that thing.
The only way to look past at everything is (for me) to think, this is an "Expansion Pack 2" for EF1. But then, if I do that, I want to play as Alexandria, not Alexander !
You can write some comments personally to me over abgang@gmx.net.

I will humbly take the honor of producing the last comment for this download. While the Elite Force 2 Demo is still popular, the full version had been released publicly, and once the American version is distributed, I am *****ured this page will no longer be accessed by anyone. So, to end such a wonderful demo page that was full with tedious comments about technical problems, opinions, lagging, and no impressions, I give you two words to end the page in glory.

If you want to play Bob Builder and spin the pipes on puzzles,
Then this is the game for you.
The only strategy in this game is moving from place to place.
Most aliens attack without strategy.
Example: Colony aliens are annoying, pop up everywhere hindering the game.
1940's style black and white movie growling sounds...
When killed sound like a raging bull that just recieved a hot branding iron on his *****.
Cheats work fine....except "notarget" When notarget is used the bots go stupid, running into the walls
and not proceeding with the game like they did in EF1.
The weapons are alomost powerless and very slow compared to EF1.
They seem to give you what the developer wants, weapons inventory is never the same
from level to level. The phaser flips open a compartment...slowing fire. That has never been in Star Trek.
This is nothing more than a game to play if you wish to wear out your mouse.
Very frustrating listening to the modern day sounds for the underpowered starfleet weapons.

Multiplayer is even worse. Unplayable because its not enjoyable running all the time, no bot commands.
A generic winning screen. No awards, no winners podium... this is absolute *****.
What the hell is there to be proud of when a new bot is made. They just run around and around.
You cant get them to follow, camp or anything. The bot just picks up the quad, runs till it dies.
The bots kill you before a shot can be fired. Or you fire 4 times to kill the bot and it lives.
Bot hits you once or twice and your dead. Completely UNENJOYABLE!!!!!!!
So this is truely multiplayer. Not like Holomatch in any form....
There is no holomatch in this game.
Thanks for nothing Ritual. You made your money, what do you care.

It would be nice to have some tools out so people in the EF community could build a holomatch
and repair your multiplayer screw up to be an actual Holomatch.

Sorry for the misspellings, I'm so mad I just don't care.

In 20 minutes I'll be playin' this thing to DEATH! (or until I get the full version, if I like this better than the Halo PC demo). Set a course and ENGAGE!

In about 20mins, I'll be able to decide if I want this or Halo for PC (cuz Halo runs really choppy on my AMD 900 Mhz with Radeon gfx chip). The first one rocks, but I've about played it to death!

....and that was a long time ago.

EF2 was a fantastic success and although the Exomorph enemy problem looked bad, the designers re made them, and now, they are very hard to beat. (Well, at least the Commander is!)
Level design also improved.

End Transmission.

Poster on 196. You are absolutley WRONG. How dare you insult the game so?! So yeah, you die in 2 shots, WHERE IS YOUR SENSE OF A CHALLENGE?

If you wanted a game where it takes a hundred thousands shots to kill you go play a game like Teletubbies get shot like you should you little 3 year old. And dont be so stubborn as to say "I'm right, whereas fifty million other people are wrong." You should of known you would get this sort of reaction if you had taken the time, or the effort, to look at a few of the other posts. You ignorant ****.
Aaargh!!!Aaargh!!!Aaargh!!!

Since the demo supplies a base folder is it possible to run a map off the website? If i try i get the 'wrong number (19) should be 20 error'. Has anyone else figured this out?

#226, sorry man, demos of quake 3 based games are protected against modification, gives you another incentive to buy the full game.

Its seems like a good game, but as soon as I start, i step forward, then i hear someones voice on the announcement system go "Sec..." then an error box pops up asking me to send an error report. this happens every time, i tried the +set r_precompressed_textures 0 code, I tried toning down the graphics, nothing. I was really looking forward to this.
