| RPG Daedalus - File Description |
 |
Tech: 9 Quality: 8 FunFactor: 8 Creativity: 8
Overall Rating: 8.3 | Description: The next in a recent line of RPG-X maps has arrived...
Gurhy brings us his new RPG Daedalus map, based on the Deathmatch level from HorckDude. The Daedalus-class starship was an early class of Starfleet vessel. The class was commissioned soon after the formation of the Federation in 2161 and decommissioned in the early twenty-third century.
This USS Alliance map has all the usual features of a roleplaying map, such as Bridge, Engineering, Brig and briefing room, but curiously no Crew Quarters or Sickbay and a large number of doors don't lead anywhere. There are, however, some unique features including an interesting armory, working shuttlecraft, a rather good admin room and even a panel on the bridge that will simulate an enemy attack with exploding consoles and shaking, but this has the obvious problem of being abused. One key concept carried over from the original Deathmatch map is space walking, where you can walk and float around the exterior of the entire ship, something not seen in almost any RP map currently. Stay away from the Bussard collectors, though.
RPG Daedalus is a good solid map, but I get the feeling that it would only be good for small group roleplays, or roleplays with considerable combat, and whilst the special features are impressive, they could easily be abused. Certainly worth a download, though. I would be interested in what kind of RPs come from this.

MAP DESCRIPTION
-----------------------------
This is the second version of my first map. After I learned mapping I started a mod: The Dax Mod. But I had troubles with mapping very soon after I started. So I decided that I needed some experience first. That's where I decided to create a HM map. I always loved Star Trek so I decided to make a Star Trek ship. But a lot of ships were already created, but not the Daedalus class ship. It seemed very interesting to me, a ship combination of the SS Enterprise NX-01 and the TOS Enterprise NCC-1701. I took on the challenge and here is the result.
When the original map was released there were a lot of possitive comments about the map, but everyone said that the framerate was way too low. So I decided to improve that and add more sections. And here it is. The framerate has been improved, the armory has been moved to deck B and has been modified, the shuttlebay has been added and engineering has been updated.
The ship has several decks:
A-deck : Bridge - Conference Lounge
B-deck : Transporterroom - Armory
C-deck : Airlocks 1, 2 and 3
E-deck : Shuttlebay
F-deck : Jefferies Tube that leads to hull - Main Engineering (with secundary transporter-pad)
Since the interior was never shown on Star Trek I made it up. But I tried to make the hull as realistic as possible, but because gameplay is more important than realism in a multiplayer game I made the following changes to the hull to improve gameplay:
- I made the engineering section (back part of the ship) a bit larger than it should be because else it wasn't big enough to hold the engineroom.
- The two parts that attach the warp nacelles to the engineering section are connected a bit too high to the nacelles because else it wasn't possible to get on the warp nacelles.
- The part that connects the saucer section (sphere) and the engineering section is a bit higher to make it connect right to the airlock.
Must-do's:
- Visit the statue of god MRJ in the conference lounge
- Break stuff :)
- Cause warp-core breach
- Touch the bussard collectors (the glowing orange things on front of the warp nacelles)
- Play around with the shuttlebay-door controls
Star Trek background information:
When the war with the Romulans began in 2156 the humans realised that they needed a strong fleet of ships to defeat the Romulan Star Empire. Therefor a large fleet of Daedalus class vessels was developed and deployed. With the growing Daedalus fleet the Romulan Star Empire got weaker and weaker and was forced to sign the peace treaty. After the war in 2160 the Humans, Vulcans and several other races formed an alliance called "The United Federation of Planets" with a military organisation called "Starfleet". Since there weren't any starships in production yet Starfleet asked their members to donate starships. The earth government donated almost the entire Daedalus fleet to starfleet making the humans one of the most important races in the UFP (United Federation of Planets). After the success with the Daedalus vessels Starfleet continued to produce Daedalus Class ships. To celebrate the alliance between the races, the first Daedalus ship actually produced by Starfleet was named the USS Alliance. This ship is playable in this Elite Force map.
CREDITS
-------------
For this map I'd like to say thanks to:
- Toonloon, for his ideas, for models, for door texture and for testing.
- AFADoomer, for letting me use the TOS mapobjects and his brand new transporter model.
- USS Speed, for creating the MRJ model and for testing.
- Wolf359, for fixing my 'node without a volume' problem
- Stukatto, for doing the best betatest and for lots of mapping info.
- Dobberman, for a lot of mapping assistance.
- Worf55, for giving me a great pep-talk when I screwed up the map and couldn't find a backup. Without him I would've given up searching and would never have found that backup.
- For testing and/or giving me ideas: MajorTork, Superrobster, Moonmonkey, CMcQ and Cmdr. Chakotay.
And the rest of the people on the Raven Boards... :)
And ofcourse I thank Raven Software for creating this wonderful game and Gene Roddenberry for creating Star Trek.

yea I guess I coulda put the enemy attack button some where more hidden or left it on a timer that go off on a timer when some 1 passes a sertain area on the ship.
but so some of you that are admins the big screen is a usable ans also triggers the enemy attack, firing sequence of 4 rounds of shooting.
I left sickbay and the quarters out as they were not in the map from which I upgraded, and I had a deadline on which to get this map released, have no idea how complicated some things have been trying to get the timing correct on things. woulda loved to have done more like adding a sickbay and making more controls work.
I have a website from where you can request upgrades of maps and a status of how near complete the map is, I need some staff though as so far its just me using the mapping area, as for some reason other people that was using it have suddenly stopped.
oh and luke could you update the download file please? this 1 has a compress bug that can cause download problems and filefrond reported an oversized virus, NOT a virus to every 1 its just how its reported, where on my website you will see the file has been replaced as you can tell from the file size, I corrected this bug

Only Site Managers and Network Administrators have the ability to replace existing files without re-uploading them, please send a corrected version of the file to our inbox and I will take care of it.
Loved it, great for smallish rps
Thanks AH. I didn't think I would be able to replace the file myself.
I do have a few things to say. One, the comms on the side should do a traditional sound not a weird sound. Also, the firing on the ship should be linked by a on/off switch.
Also, there should be buttons to:
-open shuttlebay doors
-turn on/off warpcore
Overall good attempt at an rpg version of the map.
Corrected file added.
When attempting to open this map, I get an error as follows: maps/rpg_daedalus has wrong version number, 46 should be 20. Why do I get this?
This is a map for Star Trek Voyager Elite Force(stvef,ef), not for Star Trek Elite Force II (stef2,ef2)!
How is every 1 getting on with this map? did the firing sequence from the enemy scare any 1? as I have been told already that it made them jump when they suddenly was under attack which I hoped I get that kind of response so I am very happy I have achieved some thing not done in other RPG maps from what I have seen.
You should not get any errors from the map when trying to load, the only few bugs I have found is one of the airlock doors kills you some times, I believe that the ship may have been boarded by an alien to terminate you if your not fast enough lol
The torpedo’s I did not realise I did not add a clip to stop you from suddenly being pushed out the game while standing in the torpedo’s way.
Hope to get my next map released some time when I manage to get my free time back.
